Enhancing Garden Design Using Pavers

A garden or open space design includes many elements that work together to create the most appealing look. As gardens and other landscaped areas are typically green because of the vegetation or the massive use of turf, garden pavers can be effective in adding contrast to the colour scheme of the design. Contrast is also added to the texture of the landscape with the use of such hardscape material. Plants, or what is referred to as softscape, are effective in making the atmosphere light. But using only plants for the garden can make it monotonous and boring. Adding hardscape materials such as rocks, stones and pavement materials can make the garden more interesting and balanced.

Paver Types and Colours

Pavers come in various types and colours. It would be interesting to play with the type of paver to use for your garden to make it unique and stand out from the typical gardens. To find the right material for you, it would be good to do some window-shopping. You can do that online or you can visit a landscape supplier to see the possible types of paving materials you can use for your garden. This would give you a better idea of the texture and colour of the pavers available. They would normally come in different sizes and shapes, so it will be up to you to choose the most appropriate for your landscaping project.

Uses of Pavers

Pavers are used for people to comfortably walk on. Some pavers cover most of the concrete areas of a building. In gardens, they can be used on top of lawn areas to make a small or broad pathway. The pavers can also be used to create an area that would be more durable to step on. For instance, you can pave the area around a fountain with seats for people to relax or for children to play. This would be a great alternative to having pure green grass cover for the entire place.

Paving Materials

Paving materials are usually made from natural rocks and stones, such as granite, marble or slate, with their own finishing. They may also be used of stone aggregates such as pebbles or cobblestones formed into different shapes of pavers. These different types of pavers can bring a very modern touch to your landscaping design, or bring out a classical effect. Choosing the right type of paver would determine the type of garden you are making.

The best part of using pavers is when you get to create a truly unique pavement design by using the usual materials. You should not be limited by using the same type of paver for the entire garden. You can try to mix them up for a unique effect. That way, you are customising the use of the pavers.
